People will come because you ask them to...

While I was at Dominiques with Jina, I started preaching about one of our unofficial philosophies - "...and when you have this launch party, people will come because you ask them to.  Anyone can send out a facebook invite or email," I said, "or even some clever flyer or personalized invitation.  But you know what works on me?  A phone call that goes something like this..."

"Hey Z, it's so-and-so." To which I respond, "Hey so-and-so, good to hear your voice, what's up?" So-and-So says, "I am throwing a party on Thursday for this very important cause and it would really mean alot to me if you could make it.  I'd love to see you there.  Even if it's just for a little bit."

Done.  I'm going.  If I get a phone call with a genuine invitation, then I will make every attempt to be there.  Even if it means making a sacrifice.

And so, because I opened my big mouth...I found myself on the spot with a heartfelt, face to face invitation from Jina to a CD release concert for her friend Yolanda Rabun at the Durham School of the Arts.  Tonight.

And I went.

And I got to experience a wonderful new place, with new people and very beautiful music.  If I ask you to subscribe to the show's website next week, I hope you'll do it.  You just might enjoy yourself.
